In 1946, John Callaghan and his wife Mary-Margaret founded John Callaghan's Grocery and Hardware in Burt, Co. Donegal. The original shop had humble beginnings — built in a family member's old cow shed.

Following John's passing in 1962 after a short illness, the store was lovingly cared for by Mary-Margaret, their children, and a nephew. At just 15, John's son Fintan left school to help run the family business.

By the 1970s, Fintan saw an opportunity to expand into the home appliance market, leading to the creation of Callaghan's Electrical.

Still proudly family-run, the business is now in the hands of Fintan's son, Dermot Callaghan — carrying forward a legacy of dedication, hard work, and quality service.
